Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Asking prices are not sale prices, and nothing here is legal advice.
Public asking prices are the firmest answer available: two used boats on YachtWorld, shown in the price table on this page, one of them already reduced from its first figure. We have found no new-build price we can cite, so a usable number for a new hull has to come from a written offer built on your own specification.
What do public listings show about pinisi prices?
Two listings give a firm starting point: a 1998 traditional phinisi in Labuan Bajo and a 2012 Phinisi Custom, both on YachtWorld and both checked in October 2026. Their figures sit in the price table on this page, with the month beside them. These are asking prices, meaning what a seller hopes to receive. The 2012 boat has already come down once, which is a useful reminder of how soft such numbers are.
Look at the two side by side and something odd appears: the older boat asks more than the newer one. It would be easy to build a theory on that, and a mistake. We have not recorded the length of either vessel, so the gap may reflect size, condition, equipment or simply a seller's optimism. For a wider view of what is on the market, YachtWorld keeps a country page for boats in Indonesia, where phinisi appear among other types and the stock changes over time.
The third row of the table concerns something else entirely. The Lamima figure is a broker's published charter rate per night for a 65.2-metre yacht. It tells you what hiring that boat is advertised at, and nothing about what building or buying one costs. Readers who want the hire side should go to our guide to chartering a phinisi.
Can anyone give a reliable new-build price?
Not on the evidence we can cite. Turnkey figures and bands by length circulate, including on sites within our own group, so we do not count them as confirmation and repeat none of them here. A number quoted without a specification behind it deserves the same caution from you. The practical substitute is a written offer against your own brief, itemised so you can see which parts move the total. Our guide on how to commission a pinisi boat gives the order of work.
What pushes a pinisi price up or down?
Each factor below rests on what the sources record or on what a buyer can test in an offer. We attach no percentages, because we have found none we can cite.
| Factor | What the record says | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Rig and hull type | Wikipedia describes the rig and three hull types: palari, lambo, jonggolang | Is the full rig included and working, or is the boat a motor vessel in the style? |
| Size | Our size guide lists the dimensions on record | Which length is being priced, and which tonnage? |
| Timber | A summary of a UNESCO periodic report names scarce quality timber as a threat to the craft | Which species, from where, and who carries the risk if supply changes? |
| Labour | The same summary notes pressure on labour, and rising costs | Who does the work, and does the price hold if the schedule slips? |
| Sail plan | CharterWorld records 1,277 square metres of sail on Lamima, an extreme case | What sail area, what material, who supplies it? |
| Systems and interior | No sourced figure | Are engines, electrics, plumbing and cabins itemised or left out? |
Why is price per metre such a weak tool?
A per-metre figure needs a confirmed price and a confirmed length for the same boat, and we have not recorded the length of either listed boat, so we do not have that pair. Even with both, it compares unlike things. A bare hull, a boat fitted for private use and a working charter vessel could share a length and differ enormously in what the money bought. Length itself can be measured more than one way.
When someone quotes you a rate per metre, treat it as an opening remark. Ask what one metre includes, which length it multiplies, and whether engines, rig and interior sit inside or outside it. If those answers are vague, the rate carries no information. If they are clear, you no longer need the rate, because you have a scope you can price.
What costs sit beyond the hull?
The buying price is the visible part. A sensible budget also has lines for the items below, all of which we leave blank on purpose. Legal and flag-registration figures circulate, but we could not confirm them, so get current quotes.
- Legal and flag work. Counsel's fees, company work if you need it, and registration.
- Survey. A pre-purchase inspection on a used boat, and stage inspections on a new one.
- Crew. A charter plan needs a crew payroll, and our ownership page covers what is reported about crew nationality.
- Delivery and insurance. Moving the boat from where it lies to where it will work, and covering it on the way.
- Running costs. Our page on pinisi operating costs treats these as a separate subject.
How do you compare a used pinisi with a new one?
Compare what each price buys, line by line, in one currency and as of one date. They are different kinds of promise, and the table below sets out where they part.
| Question | Used boat | New build |
|---|---|---|
| What are you pricing? | A vessel that exists, in its present condition | A specification that does not exist yet |
| Where does the evidence come from? | Survey, papers, sea trial | The written scope, drawings and references |
| How firm is the number? | An asking price, which can move | Whatever the offer says, including any adjustment clause |
| What is the main risk? | Hidden condition of the hull and systems | Delay, scope drift, supply of timber and labour |
| What must be added? | Refit and repairs the survey identifies | Items left out of the scope |
How should you judge an offer that comes through this desk?
With the same suspicion you would apply to any other. A request sent here can end in a contract with our own company, so we have an interest in the outcome and you should weigh our paper accordingly. Construction, repair, refit and vessel-sale contracts come from PT Komodo Galangan Nusantara and not from the site, and the offer states the work location, any fee and the payment terms. Put it beside a comparable offer from elsewhere, line by line, and have your own lawyer and surveyor read it.
What are the short answers on pinisi prices?
How much does a pinisi boat cost?
The prices we can stand behind are the two YachtWorld asking prices in the price table on this page. Both are for used boats, and either could sell for a different sum.
Is there a reliable price per metre for a pinisi?
No. A metre of bare hull is not the same purchase as a metre of finished yacht, and scope differs from one offer to the next.
Does a newer pinisi always cost more than an older one?
No. In the two listings in the price table, the 1998 boat asks more than the 2012 boat, so age alone does not set the figure.
Is the Lamima figure a purchase price?
No. It is a charter rate per night published by a broker for one very large yacht. It should not be used to estimate what any boat would cost to build or buy.
Can the desk give me a figure for my own project?
Yes, if the brief is specific enough to price. The answer comes as a written offer, which you should test against any other you receive.
